Visit the amazing Hong islands just off the coast of Krabi & Ao Nang!
The Hong islands are located a little to the North West of Ao Nang beach. It takes around 25 minutes to get there by speedboat and 35 minutes by longtail boat, depending on the weather conditions. The word hong means ‘room’ in Thai and it describes the shape of the main island: a narrow entrance leads to a lagoon in the middle that is surrounded by limestone cliffs. The beach at the island is amazingly white and offers great snorkeling possibilities right off the beach. During low tide you should be careful though: there is coral around with sharp points that can damage your feet if you try to walk past it.
The island group consists of 4 islands in total. You can also find Lading island, Daeng island and Pakbia island here. We offer tours by speedboat and by longtail boat to all of the Hong islands. The islands are generally a bit quieter than the frequently visited 4 islands and offers kayaking possibilities. A kayaking tour around the islands is one of the best ways to see its natural beauty from up close!
If you want to visit the Hong islands when the crowds haven’t arrived yet, it’s best to book a private tour at 7:00 in the morning. This gives you the opportunity to see the islands almost in private. The joined group tours arrive at around 10:00 in the morning and leave at around 15:00. The best season to visit the Hong islands is between December and April if you enjoy sunny weather and calm seas. During the low season from May to October the waves are sometimes uncomfortable. That’s why it’s best to check the local forecast before booking a tour to the Hong islands from Krabi.

The Hong islands are perfect for a snorkeling and kayaking day trip from Krabi. You can find toilets on the main island, as well as some small food stalls. If you are planning to visit the island while pregnant, it is advisable to take the slower longtail boat and only when seas are calm. The longtail boat is more steady in the water but produces more sound and is considerably slower. As the Hong islands are close to Krabi, this makes it a perfect destination for families with young children. The national park fees are excluded from the tour prices as per Thai law.
